A course in molecular biology that introduces recombinant DNA techniques and methods of genome analysis that are currently employed in industry. Topics covered include gel electrophoresis, plasmid transformation, restriction mapping, Polymerase Chain Reaction, Southern Blotting, Western analysis and forensic DNA fingerprinting, protein synthesis, ways to control protein synthesis, protein extraction, protein tags, DNA chips, micro-array technology and bioinformatics. The course will be offered as Writing Intensive.
