A Message From The President
Dear Students,
Welcome to Queensborough Community College. All of us here dedicate ourselves to your success. For more than sixty years Queensborough has served students like you, from Queens and the entire New York City region, by providing the strong foundation necessary to pursue your academic and career goals.
Queensborough proudly reflects the unique character of our Queens communities, the most diverse in the United States. We distinguish ourselves from other higher education institutions in the country because of that diversity, with nearly equal populations of African Americans, Asians, Caucasians, and Latinos. In 2020, Queensborough students came from 117 countries and spoke 64 native languages.
Over 12,000 students are currently enrolled in associate degree or certificate programs, and another 12,000 students attend continuing education programs on our campus. Accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, Queensborough, through its 15 academic departments, offers transfer and degree programs, including an Associate in Arts (A.A.), the Associate in Science (A.S.), and the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees. The College also offers non-credit courses and certificate programs.
Many of you will proceed to a four-year college or university after Queensborough. Historically, over half of our students transfer to a four-year CUNY college upon earning their associate degree. We want to provide an academic environment that strengthens your commitment to education, making it possible for you to graduate and complete your academic and professional goals promptly.
Queensborough’s five Academies—Business; Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM); and Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)—support your success. Each provide special learning opportunities and activities, as well as personalized guidance from Academy Advisers such as extended outreach and intervention strategies; expanded High Impact Practices such as service learning, writing-intensive courses, and internship; and educational opportunities at the College’s three cultural resource centers: The Kupferberg Holocaust Center (KHC), the QCC Art Gallery and the Queensborough Performing Arts Center (QPAC).
These enriched learning experiences serve to reinforce classroom teaching and further your commitment to your education. Queensborough is one of only a few community colleges in the country offering such programs on this scale.
Another hallmark of the College is research. With 86% of faculty holding doctoral degrees, Queensborough is actively engaged in community college pedagogical research to study and improve the teaching methodologies to further benefit you. They also conduct research in their academic disciplines, publish their findings and compete internationally in academic forums. The faculty is equally dedicated to your success and encourages you to pursue your own intellectual development.
As an entering student, you are encouraged to think about your future beyond Queensborough—whether it is to earn your baccalaureate degree or to advance to a professional career. Our supportive faculty and administrative staff will help you. We want you to reach your educational, social and professional goals. We all wish you great success and a rewarding experience here at Queensborough.
Warmly,
Dr. Christine Mangino
President of Queensborough Community College
