The Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) offers both fee-for-service programming for adults and children as well as grant and contract-funded programs. Approximately 200 courses are offered during the school year and the summer that focus on Professional and Workforce Development, Preparatory and Remedial Skills, Kids and Teens College Academic Enrichment, including test prep programming, ESL/HSE, and Adult Personal Enrichment courses. Quite notable are the array of occupational certifications in the healthcare arena such as EMT, IV, Phlebotomy and EKG Technician, Patient Care and Hemodialysis Technician, Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, and Home Health Aide. In addition, we offer Teacher Certifications such as: Child Abuse & ID Reporting, DASA, and School Violence & Prevention. 

Continuing Education and Workforce Development offers many grants-based and contract Workforce Development programs, designed to provide people with the skills and competencies needed to succeed in today’s dynamic workforce. Our programs include the following:

  • U.S. Department of Labor Strengthening Community Colleges Grant: Technology, Health Care and Education training programs.

  • Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) Workforce Development Institute: Behavioral Health training program.

  • New York Jobs CEO Council Grant: Software Engineering Web Development Boot Camp.

  • ACE Up-skilling Opportunity Grant: Software Engineering Web Development Boot Camp.

  • New York State Perkins Grant: Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Computing Training Program.

  • The Community College Growth Engine Fund/Education Design Labs: Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Computing Training Program and Software Engineering Web Development Boot Camp.

  • Google IT Support Professional Certificate Program.

  • Certified Hemodialysis Training Program, funded by the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development.

  • Certified 5G Mobile Technician Training Program, funded by the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development.

  • Community Health Worker (CHW) Training, funded by NYC Small Business Services.

  • Certified Nursing Assistant Program, funded by the 1199 SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund.

  • EKG, Phlebotomy and Responding to Emergencies (RTE) Certification for Emergency Room Technicians at Mount Sinai West, funded by the 1199 SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund. 

Chinese Academy

The Chinese Academy is a full-year program that runs from September to June each year. It is offered to students from kindergarten to the 12th grade. The Regular Chinese class is for students from Mandarin speaking families; The Chinese-as-a-second-language (CSL) course is for those with other languages and cultural backgrounds. In addition to the language classes, the Chinese Academy also offers enrichment classes such as Arts & Crafts, Calligraphy, Chess, Drawing, and Tennis. Continuing Education Adult Enrichment

Adult enrichment programs may include courses such as art history, architectural history, financial planning, computer skills (for all levels including web development and graphic design), dance classes, art, and mind and body classes (such as yoga and meditation, tai chi, Zumba, and swimming), as well as drivers education programs and driver training certification courses.

Programs for Veterans

The office has received approval by the Veterans Administration for 16 occupational programs to help Veterans reenter the workforce. In accordance with Title 38 US Code 3679(e) the VA permits covered individuals, including spouse and dependent children, to attend or participate in these programs. Professional Development

Professional Development has a wide variety of specialized training, formal education, or advanced professional learning intended to help students, adult learners, administrators, teachers, and other professionals to improve their professional knowledge, competence, skill, and effectiveness in the work they do or would like to do. The CEWD Professional Development program offers myriad of courses such as professional certifications that include teacher certifications, (Child Abuse & ID Reporting DASA, School Violence & Prevention), Health and Allied Health Services (Allied Health is defined as those health professions that are distinct from medicine and nursing) certifications such as E.M.T., C.N.A., C.P.R, S.F.A. NYSED Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification, Patient Care Technician, Medical Billing Practice Management, and the newly defined remote Boot Camp format: NHA Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) which now includes a comprehensive structure of Microsoft Office, general Medical Assisting knowledge, Administrative Medical Assisting, with an NHA Certification prep.

These are pathway courses that lead directly to employment, as well as becoming a pipeline to college.

CUNY Center for Higher Education

The CUNY Center for Higher Education is a collaborative project of Queensborough Community College, the CUNY School of Law and CUNY’s Office of Admissions Services, and is located at 39-07 Prince Street in Flushing, Queens. 39-07 Prince Street, Second Floor, Flushing, NY 11354.

A mainstay of the CUNY Center is the availability of English language instruction. The Port-of-Entry program offers an intensive 198-hour per semester program for international students and immigrants planning to move on to future academic or professional pursuits. The Queens Civics Collaboration of CUNY, funded by the State of New York, Department of Education, provides English language courses with an emphasis on the history, government and culture of the United States.

The Queensborough Community College division of Continuing Education, and Workforce Development also offers a wide variety of day and evening classes for job preparation.
